Licensed betting operator tracker

Which betting operators currently hold a verified licence in Nigeria, Kenya and South Africa — with the issuing authority, the licence number where the regulator publishes one, and the date we last checked it. Operators we track but cannot verify are listed too, because absence of a licence is the more useful fact.

Every operator name links to our own record for that market, including the ones we can't verify — you should be able to see what we hold and why we reached the conclusion we did. Those records carry no sign-up link: we only ever send traffic to an operator with a currently verified local licence.

Nigeria

Nigeria licenses at state level, not federal. 22 states operate under the Federation of State Gaming Regulators of Nigeria (FSGRN), issuing a Universal Reciprocity Certificate (URC) recognised across member states. An operator citing only a National Lottery Regulatory Commission (NLRC) licence is recorded as unverified here, not as licensed.

Kenya

Kenya moved from the Betting Control and Licensing Board (BCLB) to the Gambling Regulatory Authority (GRA) on 30 June 2026. BCLB-issued FY2025/26 licences stay valid through a transitional window ending 29 August 2026, so entries below still show the BCLB as issuer of record. Once the GRA publishes its first register, every entry is re-checked against it.

South Africa

South Africa's National Gambling Board runs the lookup portal, but licences are issued by nine provincial boards. A licence from any one province covers the operator nationwide, so the issuing province is recorded alongside the operator.

Methodology

Every entry is checked against the regulator, not the operator. Operator websites routinely display licence claims that are out of date, issued by a body that no longer has authority, or held by a different corporate entity — so an operator's own footer is never treated as evidence here.

An entry is marked Verifiedwhen a licence appears on the issuing regulator's published record and its validity period has not ended. Lapsed means we previously verified a licence whose stated validity period has since passed and which we have not been able to re-confirm. No licence on record means we track the operator in that market but hold no regulator-sourced licence for it — this is not an accusation of wrongdoing, only a statement about what we could verify.

Regulator registers are re-checked monthly, and licences already listed are re-verified weekly; each row carries its own last-checked date rather than a single site-wide timestamp. Where a regulator publishes a source URL, it is linked directly from the row so the entry can be independently confirmed. We also capture a dated snapshot of the whole register each month and keep it unchanged, so a citation of this page can be checked against what it actually said at the time.

Known limitations, stated plainly: regulators in all three markets publish inconsistently, and some do not publish licence numbers at all. A blank licence number means the regulator does not publish one, not that we failed to look. Our coverage is not exhaustive — it reflects the operators we track, which are the larger brands active in each market.

Citing this register

Journalists, researchers and other sites are welcome to use this data with attribution. For anything you intend to publish, cite a dated snapshot rather than this page — snapshots don't change, so your citation stays checkable.
